Mayday mayday S.O.S. Ibiza 2020

Updated: May 1, 2020

"When all of this is over, can't we all just take the first plane to Ibiza!?"

Is the question thousands of you are asking yourselves since the Covid-19 outbreak. It is raining cancellations. Hotels, restaurants and nightclubs are closed. The island has turned into one big ghost town. For the residents, it's kind of like living the modern version of the walking death. #Ibiza

Who would have thought that we would be starting the season 2020 like this? Full of insecurity we are awaiting the day the government decides that we find ourselves in save waters and the show can go on. #ibiza2020

There is, one small ray of sunshine, at the horizon: By the end of JUNE, Spain will have gone through their four phase reorganisation plan. The restaurants and shops will have re-opened and freedom will have been restored in terms of being allowed to leave the house; mids we keep a 2 meter distance from our fellow citizen #thankyougod!

Not to be a buzzkill, but nothing has been said about the flights and nightclubs.

Big players like Ushuaia and Hi remain hopeful and have only cancelled their May events. Because let's be honest, the number of infections are declining, countries are weakening their restrictions and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Therefore, we truly understand that for them, there is no reason to kill positivity. Who knows, maybe it will all go back to normal even sooner than we were expecting...

But what if its not!

That is the question we do not really want to ask ourselves, but is kind inevitable at this point. Followed by: "What if nothing is going back to normal?", "What if we have to adapt to a new normal?", "What will that new normal be?". In order to predict a new normal we need to know:

What we do know about protecting ourselves from the virus so far?

  • There is no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 (for now). The best way to protect yourself is to avoid being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.

  • Avoid close contact with others.

  • Wear a cloth face covering that covers your nose and mouth in public settings.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

What could the new normal for nightclubs be? Checking the temperatures of the party people by the entrance? Giving them masks? Gloves? Hand sanitizer? Constantly having security check if everybody is complying to the new two meter rule?

Could be fun when throwing a #covid-19 #neverforget theme party, but in reality, for the clubs, it is not a feasible solution...

This probably means that you will have to reorganize your Ibiza holiday plans. Reopen that scratch book and start brainstorming, again...

What can you do on an island like Ibiza besides partying whilst complying to the rules?

Spend never-ending days at the beach

Make some memories by relaxing and doing absolutely nothing! Start reading that book you have been keeping on your bookshelf for months, reconnect with your friends, swim, play, eat, talk, laugh....

Tip: If you don't feel like making your own picnic, either have your private chef bring it by or ask our concierge service to arrange it for you. Click here

Spend never-ending days on the water

Wanna go dolphin spotting? Take the non traditional route to the north of the island instead of Formentera; our captains know the drill.

Tip: Leave early so you can go all around the island by boat. An experience not a lot of neither tourists nor residents have had. Click here

Explore nature

There are different ways to explore nature in Ibiza. One could go touring around by car, quad or motor, or choose the more healthy option, hiking. There are so many hiking trails that will take you over the island exploring the natural gems.

Tip: Book a hiking trip with walking ibiza!

Stay at the villa

After the quarantine you might think that this is the weirdest suggestion to make. However, staying at your villa does not need to be dull. You can order private cooking lessons, tennis or yoga classes. You can also have massages, retreats and gong meditations. Furthermore, we can organize entertainment; like an outdoor cinema by the pool, dress up karaoke, a fire show, living mermaids you name it, we arrange it.

To conclude, we would like to state, that though there will be restrictions, Ibiza will never fail to amaze. Let us help you in creating a memorable vacation.
